On May 14th and 15th, Albertans across the province will take a stand against gender-based violence in their communities, and you are invited to join them.
Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16, according to the Moose Hide Campaign website.
The Moose Hide Campaign movement is dedicated to ending this violence, and it invites every person in Canada to be part of the solution to protect women, children and all those along the gender continuum in our communities.
Raven and Paul Lacerte of the Carrier People founded the Moose Hide Campaign in 2011, when they began handing out the first 25,000 pieces of moose hide to those who were willing to wear it as a symbol of their commitment to stand up against violence. As of 2024, the campaign team has handed out over 7 million pins and continues to gift the pins as medicine.
Raven shared, “Moose Hide Campaign Day is an opportunity to participate in ceremony in a way that makes sense for you. We do a one-day fast, and this is an opportunity to come into an Indigenous-led ceremony. Our hope is to one day have 1 million people fasting together on Campaign Day and participating in the workshops, skills-building and connection-building sessions throughout the day, as well.”
This Campaign Day, you can participate in virtual workshop sessions or find an event near you.
However you decide to take action, please remember to register by visiting moosehidecampaign.ca/register.
