Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. We believe small grassroots actions can lead to meaningful positive changes in communities. HRI’s Small Grants support initiatives of any kind that help promote or protect any human right.
You may apply for a Small Grant at any time. Our next intake will close on Friday, October 24th, 2025. That gives you six weeks to develop an idea and submit a relatively simple application form!
A link to the application form can be found on our website’s (www.hri.ca) homepage. Please watch the video on our website for helpful tips for a successful application.
The maximum amount you may apply for is $3,500 (but please ensure your budget reflects accurately the amount you need).
Who can apply?
- Individuals, community associations, schools, or not-for-profit organizations (no applications from commercial enterprises or political parties).
- Applications must be from Canada (funding is for initiatives in Canada only)
- You have not received a grant in 2025
For more information on eligibility requirements and other application information, visit our website.
We have awarded grants to over 110 non-profits, community associations, schools, and individuals over the past five years. You can see a sample of these on our website as well.
Please pass on this opportunity to other non-profits, community associations, schools, or individuals you think might be interested in HRI’s grants.
