
Executive Director Position
Location: Remote, work from home (Alberta-based required; with occasional travel within the province)
Type: Full-Time preferred; Part-Time arrangements will be considered based on the candidate’s experience and availability.

The New Buffalo Education Circle is a not-for-profit organization with charitable status, dedicated to empowering Indigenous students pursuing higher education. We bridge the gap between Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and the businesses sector to create meaningful opportunities for student success.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a visionary and values-driven Executive Director for the New Buffalo Education Circle. As leader of the organization, the Executive Director will be responsible for advancing our mission, cultivating partnerships, and ensuring operational and financial sustainability. This role requires an individual who is a proven self-starter with strong commitment to Indigenous success, cultural safety, and collaborative leadership.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee strategic planning, community relationships, programming, fundraising, and organizational development.
- Organizational Leadership, Governance & Strategic Planning
- Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and goals.
- Ensure operational alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and community priorities.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and provide regular reporting and accountability.
- Foster organizational transparency and responsiveness to community and stakeholder feedback.
- Program Development, Delivery & Impact
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of responsive and culturally relevant programs.
- Ensure programming effectively supports Indigenous business students and reflects Indigenous knowledge systems.
- Monitor and evaluate program performance using data and stakeholder input to inform continuous improvement.
- Financial Management & Sustainability
- Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget in alignment with strategic goals.
- Ensure long-term sustainability through fundraising, grant writing, and stewardship of donor relationships.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls and comply with all reporting and funding requirements.
- Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Indigenous communities, postsecondary institutions, and sector partners.
- Build and maintain a network of partners throughout Alberta high schools and postsecondary institutions.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and community meetings.
- Develop and foster partnerships that amplify the organization’s impact.
- Team Leadership & Organizational Culture
- Recruit, supervise, and support a committed, high-performing team.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities.
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and culturally grounded workplace rooted in Indigenous values.
- Communications, Advocacy & Public Relations
- Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson and ambassador.
- Advocate for systemic change and increased opportunities for Indigenous students in business.
- Lead communications strategies that raise awareness of the organization’s work and impact.
- Establish and leverage social media presence for fund development and marketing of the organization programs. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and lived/professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of senior leadership experience, ideally in a non-profit, Indigenous-led, or educational organization.
- Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, community priorities, and current issues impacting Indigenous students.
- Proven track record in strategic planning, program management, and financial oversight.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully with diverse partners and stakeholders.
- Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors.
- Fundraising and grant writing experience is a strong asset.
